With the start of the 2013-2014 N.H.L. season just around the corner, Edmonton Oiler fans have a plethora of subjects to discuss before the puck drops for the regular season on October.

Dallas Eakins

Dallas Eakins

New coach Dallas Eakins has arrived and appears to be putting his foot down with his players. Eakins appears to be a lot stricter than his predecessors and the level of accountability seems to have gone up a couple notches. Eakins seems to be a good fit for the young Oilers and he’s getting an improving team headed for success. I foresee Oiler fans looking back a couple years from now saying how great of a coach Eakins is…but is he really or is he just the lucky coach who gets the opportunity to coach a young and extremely talented team destined for success regardless of the coach. Don’t get me wrong, Eakins is obviously a very good coach but is as good as he’s being made out to be already???

The Taylor Hall at centre experiment started last night with a bang as Hall scored on his first shift. Other than three penalties, Hall did just fine. The Hall at centre project has certainly gained traction around town with some fans cheering and others disagreeing whole heartedly with the decision. Of course Hall will succeed at centre. He was the best 18 year old in his age group on planet earth. Of course he will be good at centre. He’s a star and that’s what stars do. There is no chance that Hall won’t succeed in the middle. I’m still a believer that he’s a born winger but given the chance, he could play any forward position.

Ben Eager came to town down a few pounds and ready for another shot at being a useful and the Oilers need him to be a player. He’s exactly what the team is missing and I believe this is the year for Eager to redeem himself in Edmonton. He can skate, hit, fight and even has decent hands for an I see him playing up and down the line up and contributing on a nightly basis.

Every Oiler fan scribbles down their opening night roster so I thought it would fun to do the same except I’ll do it for November 1st after Nugent-Hopkins is back.

Hall Nugent-Hopkins Yakupov
Perron Gagner Eberle
Jones Gorden Hemsky
Brown Acton Eager

Schultz Ference
Smid Petry
Schultz Grebeshkov

Keep the faith!!!

  1. You’ve must of missed the game last night to believe Grebeshkov is still a option.
